AWARD-WINNING INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SCHOOL ‘POINT BLANK’ TEACHES STUDENTS THAT MONITORING IS ESSENTIAL WITH THEIR ADAM AUDIO A77X MONITORS

With graduates ranging from Claude VonStroke to Leona Lewis, Point Blank knows a thing or two about teaching audio. Speaking to ADAM Audio at their London headquarters, Point Blank creative director, JC Concato, discusses how proper monitoring is “absolutely essential.”

“This is where you work, this is where you make decisions,” remarks Concato, as he looks at the studio surrounding him. Concato is talking about the importance of having accurate tools to make, mix and record audio to a high standard, regardless of what happens at the end of the distribution line.

“FROM PRIMAL SCREAM TO MASSIVE ATTACK”

Whether music is on an iPod or being played for 10,000 people, audio fidelity and accurate monitoring are two things which are always needed for professional work. With credits for working on music by artists such as Primal Scream and Massive Attack, Point Blank tutor and freelance producer, Max Heyes, agrees. “True monitoring is critical to mixing as well as recording,” says Heyes. “For what I do it’s critical to have a monitor I trust.”

For years Point Blank has been developing the way it helps train audio professionals, especially with so much information available freely. The well-established producer explains that there is “a lot of information on the internet which is great for people to learn, but when you start from the beginning, sometimes you end up looking at things at the end and it can confuse you.”

“SPEED UP THE PROCESS”

JC Concato’s own view on Point Blank’s role within the music industry is that it helps to “speed up the process” of learning about production.

While you may be able to learn things on your own, Concato believes that mistakes distract learners from achieving their visions and keeps them from “understanding why it’s not quite working.”

Point Blank uses ADAM Audio monitors and Max Heyes feels that there is “a lot more scope on the actual stereo width” of the monitoring. Heyes elaborates that from his experience the stereo field is “very detailed” and he can actually hear things “where other monitors might lump them in set places.”

With the reliability of ADAM Audio’s monitors, Point Blank and its roster of industry professionals continues to further the audio community class-by-class.
